Honeymoon Hotspots
It is traditional for couples to set off for their honeymoon straight from the wedding reception, it is however becoming increasingly popular for couples to stay overnight at the same hotel as friends and relatives, so that they can relive the details of the wedding the next day.
This gives you time to catch your breath. With all the excitement of the wedding you will be exhausted and jetting off at the stroke of midnight may mean that all you want to do for the first few days of honeymoon is sleep. Schedule and work permitting, it is a good idea to book your honeymoon a day or two after the wedding for this reason.
When it comes to booking your honeymoon sit down together and think about the things that you enjoy. If you are an adventure junkie there is little point in booking a honeymoon that means you are sitting by the pool each day and vice versa. If you have been on holiday together, think about the type of break that you like and the areas you have already visited. Perhaps there is a place that you really want to see or somewhere that you dream of visiting? Discuss this with your partner and discover their dream destination. Talk about how to work both of your designs into this trip of a lifetime. There are plenty of travel agents and websites that will be able to provide you with advice and help with your agenda. It is also a good idea to chat with friends who have travelled to the area before as they will be able to provide you with an unbiased opinion of the area, hotels and things to do.
While the stereotype is to simply stay in the bedroom for two weeks, in reality this can be a little on the dull side for even the most in love newlyweds. Precision planning is key to a stress free honeymoon. It is best to plan an itinerary during or shortly after booking the honeymoon itself. It will provide you with a nice break from your wedding plans as you discuss all the fun things that you can enjoy together. Research the area and find out what is on offer. Think about your hobbies and try to plan little treats into your break, such as a couples massage, moonlit picnic, scuba diving lessons, horse riding on the beach or rock climbing. Don't worry too much if there is something that you and your partner disagree on - perhaps he wants to swim with sharks and after watching the bank holiday re-runs of Jaws you’re not convinced that it will end well. It is perfectly acceptable to spend an afternoon on separate excursions. This gives you something to talk about over dinner, just because you are on honeymoon does not mean that you have to spend 24 hours a day together. That said, this may be exactly what you want to do. This is your trip of a lifetime so make sure to tailor it to your needs.
If you plan to bring gifts back for relatives then schedule half a day to do this. There is little point spending half of your honeymoon trying to find that silk tablecloth that you promised to bring back for your Great Aunt Susan. This will be the first time in a lot of months that you have properly been able to relax, so use it wisely. Don't worry if over the course of the break you start to feel a little anticlimax, this is perfectly normal. Remember, your world has been stress and rushing about for the last few months so let yourself soothe back into the normal speed of things.
Be sure that you leave work at home and, if you must bring a mobile with you, set yourself designated times to turn it on to stay in touch with relatives. The last thing that you want is a message alert or email going off at an inappropriate moment. Also, it is worth investing in some nice lingerie and nightwear. While your old ones may be comfortable and familiar, you will be grateful of something that little bit special packed in your suitcase. Remember, as with your wedding day itself, do not put to much pressure on yourself or your partner to make your honeymoon 100% perfect all the time. Things may not always run to plan and you may not be able to cram in everything on your 'to do' list, but don't loose your focus on the little details that aren't quite right as you may miss the bits that make your honeymoon memorable.
