Mr Cregan will appear again at Manchester Crown Court on Monday.

Cregan spoke only to confirm his name and date of birth.

Judge Taaffe then read out the eight charges the defendant faces, including that of murdering the two officers.

Earlier, police were given more time to question a second man, Stephen Garvey, 28, who was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder in connection with the deaths of PCs Bone and Hughes.

Police now have until Saturday morning before they must release or charge him.
