Women Have A 10-Point Partner 'Check List'

A new survey has revealed that the average single women will take four dates to judge the suitability of a potential new partner.

The research was carried out among 2,000 adults, split equally between male and female participants.

Of these dates, it was also revealed that women have a 10-point checklist that will need to be met if their partner is to stick around. Some of the soul-searching questions on the list include, 'Is he trustworthy?', 'Can he make me laugh?' and 'Will they get too clingy?'

The study also found a woman will assess whether her potential suitor is a gentleman, is if he'll stick around after things progress to the bedroom and whether he will make her feel comfortable about her body. She'll also be on the lookout for warning signs that he wants to get intimate too quickly, or that he might get too clingy afterwards. The poll found that four in 10 people had slept with a partner too soon and saw their relationship decline as a result.

But despite the ongoing decision process in the early days of dating, it takes women a lot less time to decide if they like someone on the first date, as one in 10 know instantly if someone is for them or not. In fact, almost half of women make up their minds 10 minutes into a first date. The biggest dating turn-offs were body odour and lack of chemistry, while catching the man looking at other women while on the date was a cardinal sin. Rudeness towards bar or restaurant staff will also not score points, nor will being a poor listener, talking about exes and seeming 'needy'.

Elsewhere, a woman will expect 12 text conversations, five long phone calls and a bunch of flowers before deciding to take the relationship that one step further; while watching three films, having seven passionate kisses and sharing four meals together are also likely to happen before things turn more intimate.

Tina West, spokeswoman for Singles247.com, who commissioned the survey, said: "Everyone is different and will have different ideas about when to sleep with someone for the first time.

"What this survey shows is that attitudes are changing and women are being ever more choosy, and keeping guys waiting longer than in the past.

"Although you may realise there is chemistry between you and someone else early on, getting to know someone well does take time, and more and more women are holding out before they allow a man to go to bed with them.

"Women are also expecting to be woo-ed by text nowadays, and for their man to put his hand in his pocket for at least two meals.

"Whether you think five dates like this research shows is now the norm, or whether you hold off for longer, women are getting to realise they hold the upper hand in making the decision to sleep with someone or not."
