Church Sang At Wedding 'For Good Press'

Charlotte Church has described how she agreed to sing at Rupert Murdoch's wedding in exchange for favourable publicity.

The pop star, who was13 at the time, told the Leveson Inquiry, investigating press intrusion, that she waived the £100,000 fee after being persuaded by her management to take the deal.

The 'Voice of an Angel' sang at the media moguls 1999 wedding to Wendi Deng on-board a yacht in New York.

"Despite my teenage business head screaming, 'think how many Tamagotchis you could buy!', I was pressured into taking the latter option," 25 -year-old Charlotte said in a witness statement.

"This strategy failed for me. In fact Mr Murdoch's newspapers have since been some of the worst offenders, so much so that I have sometimes felt that there has actually been a deliberate agenda."

She named Murdoch's papers as "some of the worst offenders" reporting about her father's affair, her mother's attempted suicide and even revealing she was pregnant before she was given the chance to tell her own family.
