Best Man Donates Kidney To Bride As Wedding Present

A bestman has given a bride the gift of life.

Stuart Kilgannon, 39, and bride Leanne Stefanovi, 31, are recovering after the kidney transplant.

Mr Kilgannon agreed to donate her a kidney before her wedding to Shaun, 37, in Cyprus, last year, when he was found to be a match.

Leanne Stefanovic, who was diagnosed with kidney failure four years ago, had to undergo dialysis for nine hours every day.


The operation took lace in St James's Hospital in Leeds on Tuesday.

Leanne, of Hull, told The Mirror: "I didn’t think I’d feel this good so quickly. I have a lot to thank Stuart for."

Hubbie Shaun added: "Stuart is my hero. I saw him afterwards and cried with him. He was groggy and just said ‘start living life’."

Stuart told The Daily Mail: "'It's hard to describe, but it's a fantastic feeling.

"I've seen Leanne and she looks ten years younger. Her kidney function is better than mine. To see how she looks is unbelievable."
