Kidnap Heiress Weds

Daughter of a US millionaire estate agent Elizabeth Smart has tied the knot with Aberdeen-born Matthew Gilmour.

The heiress, who was kidnapped by a street preacher at the age of 14 and held captive and raped for nine months, was married at a Mormon ceremony in Hawaii.


Family spokesman Chris Thomas said in a statement: "Elizabeth's desire was for what most women want — to celebrate her nuptials in a private wedding with family and close friends, "She decided, about a week ago, the best way to avoid significant distraction was to change her wedding plans and to get married in an unscheduled ceremony outside of Utah."

Brian David Mitchell was convicted in 2010 of Elizabeth's 2002 kidnapping and sexual assault. He is serving a life prison sentence.
