Speaking to The Sun, the presenter added that the actress made him "extraordinarily happy".
Speaking about his relationship, the 30-year-old revealed: "I can confirm that I am extraordinarily happy at the moment. It was crazy when photos of Samantha and me made it into the papers.
"I am very happy but when the focus is on me, I do feel a bit confused and weird about it. I am not that comfortable about going into lots of detail because it's not just me that is involved."
The Welshman also spoke about Barks' performance in the hit film Les Misérables, stating he cried the first time he watched it.
He admitted: "I have seen Les Mis and I thought Samantha was great in it. I cried a lot when I saw her perform. But I'm a bit of a softie. It is the first time I have seen Sam perform."
The couple are believed to have been dating for several months.
