The couple's relationship has caused much speculation over recent months, but this is the first confirmation that they have gone their separate ways.
The pair, who were married for 22 years, are said to be much happier living apart and the decision to end their relationship was an amicable one.
Speaking to E! News, the couple said: "We are living separately and we are much happier this way. But we will always have much love and respect for each other.
"Even though we are separated, we will always remain best friends and, as always, our family will remain our number one priority."
The split is said to follow a recent argument between the couple about owning a gun and whether their teenage daughters should drop out of school.
The couple have two daughters - Kendall, 17, and Kylie, 16 - together and four children each from previous relationships.
