According to a report in The Telegraph, Norway's divorce rate now stands at 40% but it is now encouraging people to make time for their other half at least one night a week.
It is said that people aged between 40 and 44 are the most likely to break up, and Solveig Horne, who is the country's new Minister for Children, Equality and Social Inclusion, is behind the initiative.
Ms Horne, who is a divorcee herself, said: "Each could need to decide what sort of a date night they should have, whether it is a night at the movies or a walk together without the kids for a couple of hours."
The advice has been inspired by 2010 film 'Date Night'. The romantic comedy, which stars Tiny Fey and Steve Carrell, sees them arrange a night out together – only for everything to go wrong. However, Ms Horne said she still liked the idea.
"I saw the movie Date Night where and American couple try to go out to keep their relationship alive.
'In the film, everything goes wrong but I thought it was a good idea.
"My sister lives in the US and she told me that she and her husband have a weekly date night and it really works. Date night isn't really something that is done in Norway but I think it could be a good way to keep marriages together."
