1 In 3 Go On Holiday To Find Love

One in three people in Britain go on holiday in order to find love, a new survey has found.

The results also found that almost a quarter of people are willing to go it alone on a holiday, compared to just 9% last year.

Other reasons include travellers wanting "to rediscover" themselves, while others confessed they simply had no-one else to go with.

The study, commissioned by travel website sunshine.co.uk, asked almost 2,000 people aged 18 from the UK about their holiday plans.

While 76% of respondents said they had never been on holiday by themselves before, others shared their reasons as to why they had ventured out on their own.

The top five reasons are:

1. Looking for love (31%)

2. To rediscover myself (26%)

3. I like my own company (24%)

4. No one else to go with (19%)

5. My usual holiday buddies couldn't go (17%).

Elsewhere, the survey found that Spain is the most popular place to go it alone (25%), followed by Australia (23%), Thailand (18%), Greece (14%) and France (11%).

Chris Clarkson, Managing Director at sunshine.co.uk, said: "Although flying with others is usually favoured by most due to being able to share holiday memories, there is no shame in holidaying alone.

"Whilst many choose to go travelling abroad on a soul-finding mission, perhaps to Thailand or Australia, a solo holiday can be a chance to relax and have some time to yourself."
