The actress made the comments as she appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Aniston, 45, is good friends with the talk show host and was addressing claims that she could just spring the surprise one day, because of the constant speculation that surrounds her love life.
DeGeneres, who is married to Portia de Rossi, started the marriage conversation, commenting: "I am your friend and I know a lot about you, but if I weren't your friend, I have to discuss the crazy constant rumors of the wedding.
"I know that I'll know when the wedding is, but sometimes, because it is so secretive, when we're invited [over] we're like 'I'm not in town, but should we be in town?'"
Aniston responded: "It's funny actually; our friends Sacha [Baron Cohen] and Isla [Fisher] have shown up for four parties, four little gatherings, about a year ago, they would show up in beautiful wedding wear.
"Even like the 4th of July last year, they showed up and Sacha was in a powder blue suit and Isla was in a little cute dress. And we were like, 'Guys, it's the 4th of July, we're in cut-offs and eating hotdogs. We will actually let you know!"
She added: "For Thanksgiving, a friend of mine said, 'I can't come this year, but should I?'"
DeGeneres appeared sympathetic, admitting: "One time that Portia and I called, and it was very secretive, like there may be a thing this weekend, we'll let you guys know where it is, and what time. And we were like, 'Oooh, should we make that?"
However, Aniston said: "But you didn't come."
"We didn't come because we didn't need to," DeGeneres laughed, before she added: "I'm very busy. There has to be a wedding for me to stay in town!"
Aniston started dating Theroux in May 2011 and in August 2012, the couple announced their engagement.
