Couple Who Married For TV Show Separate

A couple who tied the knot for a controversial television show on Channel 4 have separated – after just three weeks together.

The pair – Jason Knowles and Kate Stewart – legally became husband and wife for 'Married at First Sight', despite having never met before they walked down the aisle.

The couple, as with the other participants, were subjected to a variety of personality tests that were meant to find matches most likely to result in lasting marriages. They were then paired together by the programme makers.

Stewart, 31, and Knowles, 34, discovered problems in their marriage early on due to their long working hours. They also never consummated their relationship. However, the final nail in the coffin came after a friend of the bride's discovered the groom had joined up to dating service Tinder – something he says he only did after realising the romance wasn't going to work.

Appearing in the show's final episode on Thursday evening, the couple confirmed they had separated after just three weeks together.

Knowles was heard to say: "It was probably more from my side than hers that it didn't work. It's not that I didn't want to give it a go but I just definitely wasn't feeling the feelings you should feel at the start of the relationship. I made a decision after the honeymoon to end things.

"One of my good friends said: 'Jason, are you back in the dating scene?' I said it was a bit too soon but he suggested I should re-download Tinder.

"I handed my phone over to his girlfriend who was happily swiping left and right and having a laugh about it. Anyway, the next morning I woke up and packed my bags because I already knew I was going to leave.

"We sat in the lounge but Kate wouldn't let me talk. She had a rant at me. At the end of the conversation she said: 'By the way, you swiped right on one of my friends and I'm leaving', at which point she saw my bag at the door and said, 'Apparently you are too'."

Ms Stewart has declined to comment to the press, saying she wants things to "settle down" so she can move forward with her life.
