New Birthing Pool Opens At Hospital

A new birthing pool has been officially launched at the maternity unit of Causeway Hospital.

The addition of the pool provides more choice for pregnant women at the hospital.

Cathy Warwick, Chief Executive of the Royal College of Midwives (RCM), was invited to officially open the pool.

Caroline Diamond, Lead Midwife for Maternity Inpatients, said: "The use of water as pain relief during labour and birth has been found to be very effective, resulting in less use of pain relief and providing a positive experience for our mothers.

"We are delighted with the new facility and that we can now offer mothers a wider choice in terms of how they labour and deliver."
