He married Erin McNaught, a model from Australia, in 2013 and the pair have two sons together.
Speaking on ITV's Lorraine, he said: "I think it's that almost old fashioned idea that men should be tougher and not show their emotions.
"It's the same thing that leads down the road to depression and suicide - out of all my friends, I was the first one to have kids.
"I didn't know who to talk to or how to talk about it - no one in my family had lost one [a baby].
"All you want to do is put all your time and effort into your missus.
"Even she forgets to ask how I am in a way because she's dealing with it physically and mentally - and I haven't got the physical [effects], but it's important to open up and talk to people."
