Sarah Burton who designed the stunning gown went to great lengths to keep the dress secret telling only a key number of designers who were to help her with implementing the design.
The ivory satin and lace gown was hailed as a triumph for Burton, the Creative Director of Alexander McQueen.
"It was so great to actually keep a secret, especially in this day and age when everyone talks about everything."
Burton's parents, Anthony and Diane Heard, were told only on the eve of the ceremony. She was unable to tell them earlier as she was bound by a confidentiality agreement.
Bazaar’s Editor, Lucy Yeomans, said:"The Alexander McQueen royal wedding dress gave us the year’s – if not the century’s – most thrilling fashion moment."
