Eleanor Jeffery, who has been fighting cancer for 18 months, was told by her doctors that her illness was terminal but despite this news she is determined to marry her fiancé Tom.
The bride-to-be discovered a small lump on her breast last spring and for the eight months following the discovering she underwent a mastectomy, six cycles of chemotherapy and, finally, daily sessions of radiotherapy.
After beating breast cancer however Eleanor began to suffer from lower back pain and was later diagnosed with cancer of the pelvis and was told she has only an estimated three months to live.
Eleanor said:"I won’t live to see the New Year, let alone next summer. So why plan getting married to the man I love on a date I may never see?"
"Tom and I wanted to plan our wedding for June 2012. It was an act of defiance - we wanted something to aim for," she explained.
She said:"I know there is the possibility that I have only months to live, but a possibility is not a certainty.
"Planning the wedding has been a lovely distraction — visiting venues, choosing flowers, drawing up a guest list. Now friends are asking: 'Have you found a dress?' rather than: 'When’s your next scan?'"
