Wedding Guest Settles Injury Case

A wedding guest, whose nose was broken by an automatic door allegedly closing and striking her face as she stood in a doorway, has settled a damages claim, according to The Irish Independant.

Circuit Civil Court in Dublin heard how Martina Fivey, 41, who was attending her sisters wedding in Mullingar Park Hotel in Co Westmeath, February 23, 2008, was hit by the automatic doorway as she waited for her husband to join her in the amoking area.

She told Judge Jacqueline Linnane that her face had turned black and blue for a couple of weeks and she had to cover up the marks with make-up, the paper reports.

Ms Fivey, of Mahonstown, Gaybrook, Mullingar, has a history of nasal problems requiring surgery, said her nose had been bent to the right side after the incident. X-rays showed up the fracture and her nose had to be straightened under general anaesthetic.

Ms Fivey brought a case against the hotel and the company which installed the doors. She received an undisclosed settlement figure. Both defendants had denied negligence.
