She tweeted the next day: 'OMG. Last night Jason surprised me with the one gift I've been waiting for. Can't wait to show you!! SO SO SO excited! Xxo.'
The couple then flew to Vegas to celebrate Jason's 40th birthday at an exclusive party in Planet Hollywood's Chateau Night Club.
'Tonight was one of the most magical nights of my life. Such an amazing time with my new fiancé and our closest friends and family. #Blessed,' she later tweeted.
Britney was aware that the proposal was going to happen after she finished her world tour on November 15 but was unsure as to when.
This will be the Baby One More Time's singer's third wedding. She was married infamously for 55 hours in 2004 to childhood friend, Jason Alexander, and then to Kevin Federline, the father of her two sons, Sean Preston Federline and Jayden James Federline.
