English discovered the ring, which had the couple's first names and the wedding date engraved on it, in a flowerbed while fixing an inflatable snowman the day after Christmas.

After talking to neighbours it was discovered the band belonged to Luke Stephan, who left the area with wife Carole in the late 1990s and now lives in Ann Arbor.

The ring was returned to Stephen who described the experience as "heart-warming".
