Mark Carey Launches Street Photography Website

London wedding photographer Mark Carey, a well respected travel photographer and wedding photojournalist is preparing to launch a brand new website dedicated to providing a showcase for the work of street photographers called 'The Street Photographer'.

"I want this website to be a place people can visit and know they will always see some of the highest quality street photography from around the world". said Mark, who works as a professional documentary wedding photographer serving clients in the UK and internationally.

Mark has a background of shooting street photography in Vietnam, Laos, Thailand and more recently India. Shooting candidly in these countries has allowed him to develop a unique style of photography which lets him work very close to his subjects whilst remaining unnoticed. This characteristic 'quiet' approach is also a feature of his wedding photography, with one client noting that her guests did not even realise that she had employed a wedding photographer!

Interviewed in Photography Monthly about his work in India, Mark was described as a 'master of reportage work' by editor Sean Samuels. He encourages potential street shooters to think about being sensitive to local cultures, consider backgrounds and look for subtle gestures of subjects. According to Mark, 'It's important to get physically close to the people you are shooting as this helps create engaging, intimate images that really draw you in to the scene. As the war photographer and co-founder of the picture agency 'Magnum' Robert Capa said, "If your pictures aren't good enough, you're not close enough".

The new street photography website will be modelled on the existing Mark Carey Photography site with a clean, uncluttered feel, minimalist branding and rich content. Contributor submissions will be invited and guest posts from known and unknown street shooters will be actively encouraged and warmly welcomed. There will also be discussions about photographic equipment and comparisons between the different shooting styles employed from country to country. The new site aims to be a resource for all those who appreciate street photography as an art form and the importance of capturing the 'decisive moment.'

The website 'The Street Photographer' will be live late February 2012.
