First Wedding Reception Booked At Titanic Suite

Love is in the air at Titanic Belfast as details were revealed about the first wedding reception to be booked at its banqueting suite.

Lynsay Smith from Lisburn and Brian Evans from Newtownards will be the first couple to celebrate their marriage at the Titanic Suite, which occupies the top floors of the new centre. The couple, who became engaged in 2009, booked the venue last year, months before construction work finished on the 1000-seater banqueting suite.

Bride-to-be Lynsay Smith said: "We looked at a variety of venues across Northern Ireland for our wedding reception, from hotels to golf clubs to art galleries, but just couldn't find anything to suit our style. I was intrigued when I heard that Titanic Belfast included a banqueting suite, so we decided it was worth a look. The plans were incredible, so we took the chance and booked the venue in September last year without seeing it in person.

"It was nerve wrecking seeing the Titanic Suite for the first time just a few weeks ago, but we were really overwhelmed by the elegance and unique features of the main room and adjoining bars. The views and the near-replica grand staircase blew us away. We are looking forward to our wedding more than ever now that we know how beautiful the reception will be and are so excited to share the occasion with our family and friends will be in such a one-of-a-kind location."

Bookings for the Titanic Suite, Belfast's largest dedicated banqueting space, have been popular not only for weddings, but award ceremonies, conferences and gala dinners, with enquiries being made for as far away as 2017.

Claire Bradshaw, Head of Sales and Marketing at Titanic Belfast, said: "The Titanic Suite, located on the top two floors of Titanic Belfast with stunning views across the City will be a new stand-out venue for Belfast. It will offer a first-class service in a first-class location that captures the grandeur of the Titanic era.

"We are delighted with the number of bookings to date and in particular the interest we have received from those planning their weddings. The setting makes for a wonderful reception space and I'm sure that many brides, including Lynsay, will enjoy having their wedding photos taken in such a special setting."

The Titanic Suite, located on the fifth and sixth floors of the world’s largest Titanic visitor attraction, has flexible space catering for private gatherings of as little as 50 guests, to major function with up to 1,000. Lynsay and Brian’s wedding reception will cater for up to 150 guests when it takes place in September 2012.

Titanic Belfast is an iconic six-floor building featuring nine interpretive and interactive galleries that explore the sights, sounds, smells and stories of Titanic, as well as the City and people which made her. It is the world’s largest Titanic experience.

The building will also house temporary exhibits, education and community facilities, catering and retail space and a basement car park. Visitors will learn about the construction of RMS Titanic and the wide and rich story of Northern Ireland’s industrial and maritime heritage.

Supported by the Northern Ireland Executive, Titanic Belfast is a unique public / private partnership funded by the Northern Ireland Tourist Board, Belfast City Council, Belfast Harbour and Titanic Quarter Ltd. It is operated by Titanic Belfast Ltd and will be owned by the Titanic Foundation Ltd.

Titanic Belfast is opening on March 31st 2012 in time for the centenary of Titanic’s maiden voyage on 2nd April 2012.
