Zoo Celebrates Inter-Species 'Wedding' On Valentine's Day

A ram and a deer have tied the knot at a zoo in China.

The unconventional love story of Changmao the ram and Chunzi the doe captured the hearts of the Chinese public and culminated with a zoo marriage on Valentines day.

Yunnan Provincial Wildlife Park in Kunming city even issued tickets for the event.

According China’s Xinhua news agency the animals were placed in a pen together when Changmao was two months old, an inter-species romance soon blossomed.

The 'couple' were placed in separate enclosures last year but were eventually reunited.

Changmao has not been faithful to Chunzi - he has fathered a baby lamb with the zoo's only female sheep.

He was moved back with the doe when he became violent. Changmao would attack the fence with his horns while Chunzi jumped over the fence to be with him several times.

Professor Xu Linmu, an animal researcher from the park, told Xinhua that the pair will not produce offspring.

"Spotted deer are cervid while sheep are bovid. Only those belonging to the same category may have cubs, such as tiger and lion, which are both feline," he said.

500 tickets at 66 yuan ($10; £6.60) were issued for the event.
