Rare Pink Diamond Discovered

A rare large pink diamond similar to the Williamson Pink, given to Queen Elizabeth II as a wedding gift in the 1950s, has been unearthed.

Mining group Rio Tinto discovered Australia's biggest rough pink diamond, named the Jubilee Pink, at its Argyle mine.

"This rare diamond is generating incredible excitement. A diamond of this calibre is unprecedented - it has taken 26 years of Argyle production to unearth this stone and we may never see one like this again," Josephine Johnson from Rio's Argyle Pink Diamonds division told The Sydney Morning Herald. "The individual who gets to wear this remarkable pink diamond will be incredibly lucky indeed."

The diamond, yet to be valued, will go on sale later this year.
