Cleaner Stole To Fund Big Day

A cleaner who stole money to fund her wedding has pleaded guilty to five counts of theft by an employee.

Kelly Ridley, 22, of Whitley Bay, North Tyneside, pinched over £800 in cash, bank, store cards and even a mobile phone from her workplaces.

She worked in Backworth Park Primary and Shiremoor Medical Resource Centre.

Prosecutor Sarah O’Neill told North Tyneside Magistrates’ Court: "This was a substantial breach of trust."

Ridley’s solicitor Stephen Moore told North Tyneside Magistrates’ Court: "She married in June last year. That plays a part in this offending.

"She was desperate to raise money, her own funds to pay towards her wedding.

"She had been let down by her father who made promises. There was a letter from her doctor which says she was suffering from anxiety and she was depressed.

"This is a lady who has been extremely foolish. She’s appalled by her behaviour and devastated to be in this position."

Ridley was hit with a 12-month community order, she will carry out 100 hours of unpaid work and must pay £885 in compensation and costs.
