Bridegroom Jailed For Wedding Reception Blaze

The groom who caused £6 million worth of damage to his wedding reception venue has been sentenced.

Max Kay, who started a fire damaging Peckforton Castle Hotel, near Tarporley, has been handed six years jail time.

Kay, 36, pleaded guilty to a charge of arson that was reckless as to whether life was endangered.

The bridegroom, from Liverpool, was caught on CCTV going into and coming out of the drawing room where the blaze started.

A total of 117 people, including 13 children, had to be evacuated after the fire broke out in a wing of the castle at around 5am on June 19 2011.
