Series Follows 'Undatables' Attempts To Find Love

People living with challenging conditions are often considered 'undateable' - a new dating series on channel four meets a few and follows their attempts to find love.

The first episode features Richard, an amateur radio enthusiast, who has Asperger's. Richard will only date a woman who lives within a five-mile radius, and won't eat on a date.

Meanwhile, 23-year old Luke is a stand-up comedian who has Tourette's. He's got an active social life and a good group of friends, but in a world where first impressions are everything, he's petrified of approaching a girl for fear of calling her a slag - or worse.

How will Luke cope when he meets Lucy, a part-time receptionist, who's never known anyone with Tourette's before?

Trainee teacher Penny, 23, has a genetic disorder that means her bones are extremely brittle. She's never been on a date before, and is worried about getting left behind.

Penny is three feet three inches tall. Her ideal man is a 6 foot tall policeman. Will Max - who is 5ft 11ins - measure up?

Learning disability charity Mencap has welcome any programme for tackling a crucial issue for people with a disability - their equal right to personal relationships - in a positive, informed way. This an area disabled people feel very strongly about however, they feel the packaging and representation of the programme by Channel 4 could be seen to do more harm than good "by once again portraying people with a disability in an unflattering way, when many already feel excluded from mainstream society".

"People with disabilities are under-represented in the media and public life, and a more constructive approach might be to see Channel 4 including people with a disability - for example, presenters and actors - in mainstream programming, rather than reinforcing stereotypes through sensationalist marketing," a spokesperson for the charity said.

The programme will air on Channel 4 on Tue 03 Apr at 9PM.
