The ex-Disney star's representative has confirmed that the Hunger Games actor proposed to Miley on May 31.
Liam, 22, who has been dating Miley, 19, for three years, pooped the question with a 3.5-carat diamond ring from famous jeweller Neil Lane.
The Hannah Montana actress said: "I'm so happy to be engaged and look forward to a life of happiness with Liam."
The former Hannah Montana actress also tweeted: "Life is beautiful."
The pair fell in love while working together on The Last Song in 2009.
He said: "What happened happened, and we've been together since.
"She makes me really happy. When you start, you want to be professional, but when you're filming those scenes with someone and pretending to love them, you're not human if you don't feel something."
Rumours about the couples engagement have been circulating for months after Miley was pictured wearing the diamonds on her ring finger at a film premiere in March.
