Budget Wedding Costs Couple £50

A couple have wed for just £50, according to The Sun.

Tina Elliot, full-time mum-of-one, and engineer Marc Botterill, 23, spent £44.50 for the licence fee, while friends paid for a pub lunch after the service and the reception was bring your own bottle at a relative’s home.

Tina, 31,who has a two-year-old daughter, Emma Mai, with Marcmaintains the low-key wedding was the best day of their lives.

She told the paper: “We got together in November 2009, everything was perfect and I then found I was pregnant two months later.

“We were over the moon, but I didn’t want to have a baby out of wedlock and Marc was completely understanding and said: ‘If you want to get married, let’s just do it.’

“I booked the register office at Leicester Town Hall for June 12, the food and DJ were sorted and invites sent out.

“But when I went for my routine 28-week scan four days before the wedding I was told the baby needed to be delivered as soon as possible because of complications.

“I was rushed for an emergency Caesarean and gave birth 14 weeks early, on the morning of what was supposed to be my wedding day.

“Still desperate to get married, we re-booked our wedding for the following month. We had no money after spending out on all the new things for the baby, so we paid £44.50 for the licence fee and everything else was borrowed or donated. Our wedding rings, worth £20, were a kind gift from Adapt, a charity for premature babies. My dress was a maternity dress I’d not had the chance to wear before having Emma Mai, which cost just £10. With my baby weight it still fit perfectly.

“My mum Erica, 65, and dad, Den, 67, bought a wedding cake from Marks & Spencer and mum gave me a bunch of flowers to carry down the aisle.

“My sister Jayne, 44, a nurse, let me wear the tiara from her wedding so I would have something borrowed.

“My something blue was a garter from a friend and my something new was a pair of earrings from Argos, costing £5.

“The ceremony was beautiful. Marc and I said our vows in front of 15 guests.

“As I said ‘I do’ I felt the luckiest woman in the world. After the ceremony our guests joined us at a pub in Leicester town centre and all chipped in to buy Marc and I a meal. I had gammon and potatoes while Marc tucked into a mixed grill, then we headed to my sister’s house for drinks that people had brought with them.

“Despite costing us £50 our friends loved the day and said it was a perfect way to show our love for each other.”
