Brian Valentine wanted Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers to play at his wedding in July as a present for his bride-to-be, Amazon vice president Gianna Puerini.
The pair got engaged at one of the band's concerts in Seattle in June 2010 so the band holds special memories for them.
Brian splashed out $165,000 (£105,000) on a deposit to a now-out of business firm Lund Live, which claimed to book acts like Petty, Run-DMC and Ludacris however after contacting Petty's management company he found the transaction was phoney.
Valentine then stumped up further cash for Petty And The Heartbreakers to play a full set at his wedding in Seattle .
