The star who received the award for 'Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Comedy or Musical' for his Les Misérables performance thanked his wife Deborra-Lee Furness.
"If I forget to mention anyone, babe, could you come up and thank them after?" he said.
"I really thought I'd bitten off more than I could chew," he said. "My wife talked me off that cliff, like she talks me most days.
"But baby, I'm going to say it now in front of the entire world: Thank you for always being right."
