According to Yahoo, the 32-year-old made the comments at the screening of his new film, White House Down.
Tatum, whose wife Jenna Dewan-Tatum is due to give birth to the couple's first child soon, said he was nervous of the upcoming arrival, after having played the role of a father in his new movie.
"It's scary because I'm about to be a dad," he explained.
He added: "It was kind of fun though because it gave me a nine year look into the future and what craziness that is going to be.
"I've never played a dad and you never know what you are going to be asked to do – I've never been a Dad, you have to figure it out. But I loved it, it was great."
In White House Down, Tatum's daughter is played by 13-year-old actress Joey King, and the actor said he would love his child to turn out the same way as his on-screen daughter.
He admitted: "Little Joey King is this unbelievable beautiful little monster, she is such an amazing little actress and we had so much fun on the movie. If I could have little Joey as a daughter I would absolutely love that."
Tatum and Dewan met on the set of their movie, Step Up in 2006 and began dating shortly after filming finished. The couple became engaged in September 2008 before tying the knot in July 2009. In December 2012, the pair announced they were expecting their first child.
