Venue's Worry Over Wedding Cars

A registry office in Preston has said wedding cars might not be able to arrive at their venue from next month due to building work.

According to the Lancashire Post, last minute tests are being carried out to see if the vehicles will be able to access the temporary home of Preston Registry Office.

Essential building work is being carried out at County Hall from 1 May, meaning all wedding and civil partnership ceremonies have been moved from the Lancashire Rose Suite on Bow Lane, to the ballroom at the former Park Hotel.

Plans for the refurbishment work have been scheduled for months, but concerns only arose last week after officials commissioned tests on the Bailey Bridge leading to the new office because there were fears a ramp could cause long vehicles to get stuck.

Steve Lloyd, Lancashire County Council’s Registration and Coroners’ Support Manager, said: "As part of the Preston Register Office’s temporary move to East Cliff, we have been testing wedding cars of various sizes to see if there are any issues with them crossing the Bailey bridge.

"I’m pleased to say that all of the models we’ve tested so far have adequate clearance. We hope to complete the tests later this week, when we’ll see whether there any issues with a full-sized stretch limousine crossing the bridge."
