Couple To Celebrate 80th Anniversary

A couple from Matlock, who are believed to be the oldest married couple in the UK, are to celebrate their 80th wedding anniversary.

The Derbyshire Times has said Monty Turberville (105) and his wife Ivy, who turns 101 later this month, are to celebrate their anniversary in September.

The couple met as teenagers in Holloway, but now reside at Valley Lodge care home where they have lived for the past five years.

Speaking of their lives together, Ivy said: "Monty used to ride motorcycles with my two brothers and that’s how we met. I suppose it was love at first sight really.

"I’m not sure what the secret to such a long marriage is. Just stay together, through good and bad. Which is easy for us two as it’s been a near 80 years of happiness."

The couple, who have no children, married at Holloway Church in September 1933, when Ivy was 21 and Monty was 25. They honeymooned in Mablethorpe, near Skegness, for a week.
