The pair were first revealed to be dating in March, but according to the Daily Mail, the couple had been together for several months previously.
It is understood 30-year-old Johnson made the revelation at Raffles club in Chelsea last week.
A source said: "Their conflicting work schedules mean they have gone their separate ways."
Earlier this month, the This Morning host said his relationship with 22-year-old Barks made him "extraordinarily happy".
At the time, he added: "I can confirm that I am extraordinarily happy at the moment. It was crazy when photos of Samantha and me made it into the papers.
"I am very happy but when the focus is on me, I do feel a bit confused and weird about it. I am not that comfortable about going into lots of detail because it's not just me that is involved."
Before Johnson, Barks was rumoured to be secretly dating her Les Mis co-star Russell Crowe. However, the actor dismissed the stories.
