Of the women taking part in the survey, 83% said they would only expect to spend £20 on a date, while their male counterparts were much more generous, with more than 40% saying they would happily spend £50. Only 9% of women said they would spend £50 on a date.
Other findings revealed that women were now looking for men who are financially stable, with over two-thirds admitting they would not date a man if he was unemployed.
In contrast, 90% of men said they would date a woman if she were unemployed.
Despite both sexes having different opinions on how to spend money on a date, they were in agreement that the economy has made them more careful with what they are spending.
Sean Wood, Communications Director for Cupid Plc, said: "Our survey showed that, in these times of austerity, women are far more careful when it comes to spending money on dates, whilst men are more free with their cash."

More Couples Saving Money On Dates
A new survey has found Britain's daters are choosing to stay in with their partner rather than go out. The research, which was carried out by Cupid Plc, found that due to the economic downturn, more and more couples were choosing to stay in and save money on their dates.Of the women taking part in the survey, 83% said they would only expect to spend £20 on a date, while their male counterparts were much more generous, with more than 40% saying they would happily spend £50.
