According to Digital Spy, the couple were said to be linked after they were spotted together at Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution Day street festival last week.
Smith, who won a BAFTA for last week, was then said to have travelled to the Soho Theatre on Tuesday night to see Brand's stand-up gig, before the couple had dinner and drinks together at a nearby hotel.
The 31-year-old actress quickly took to Twitter however to deny the stories that the couple were dating, writing: "Just had dinner with lovely friends. And yes they're wrong yet again. He's one of my best mates Xx."
The speculation came after Smith recently admitted she had been "happily single" for three years.
She said: "I've been single for three years. People have linked me with people, but I've always been single. Most of my best mates are actors so I get linked with them.
"To be honest, I'm happily single. I'm enjoying working so much. People go, 'Why are you single?' but it's because I actually love my job."
Smith has previously dated Ross McCall and her Gavin & Stacey co-star James Corden.
