Russell Brand has said he never cheated on Katy Perry when the couple were together.
The comedian made the comments in an interview with Esquire magazine.
The 38-year old was married to Perry, 28, for 14 months before they split, and while he remained faithful, the former sex addict struggled with the idea of committing to one person for the rest of his life.
He explained: "When I'm in a relationship I'm diligently monogamous and stick to the principles agreed on within that relationship. You've got to.
"I tried it [marriage] and I loved it. I really think she's a lovely beautiful person. It's just hard isn't it? She's got a lot of options, I've got a lot of options, so you've got to really, really want it."
The couple, who married in October 2010, spent a lot of time during their first few months of their marriage apart due to work commitments.
"Some of it is the game. But I think getting married is – you've got a whole other person that you've got to make as important as you," he explained.
Despite his short-lived union, however, Brand admitted that he hasn't ruled out tying the knot again in the future, but worries he is attracting the wrong kind of girls because of his infamous wandering eye.
He said: "I'd like to be married. I'm just not transmitting that frequency of 'Soul mate! Soul mate!' I'm transmitting the frequency of 'Mmm!'".
Brand and Perry first met in the summer of 2009 when the singer filmed a cameo for Brand's film Get Him To The Greek. They started dating after the met again in September 2009 at the MTV Video Music Awards. They announced their engagement in December 2009 and married in October 2010 in a traditional Hindu ceremony, near the Ranthambhore tiger sanctuary in India, the same location where Brand proposed.
After 14 months of marriage, Brand filed for divorce in December 2011, citing irreconcilable differences. Their divorce was finalised in July 2012.
