Earlier this month, a series of photographs were published of the couple outside a Mayfair restaurant in London with Saatchi repeatedly putting his hands around his wife's neck during an argument.
Following the photographs, the 70-year-old art collector described the incident as a "playful tiff" but did accept a police caution for assault.
Lawson, who has been married to Saatchi for 10 years, has not been seen at the family home since the incident and it is understood the couple's relationship is over.
A source is quoted by the paper as saying: "She wants out. Neither she nor Charles are interested in counselling or trying to save the marriage."
Another insider added: "This is not how Nigella imagined her marriage might end but she realises it was the tipping point. The marriage has been under strain for some time but the choking incident was the end.
"If anything it is a relief for her that it could all be over very soon. There's a sense she has already moved on in her own head.
Last week, the television chef was spotted without her wedding ring, intensifying rumours that the couple's relationship was in trouble.
