'Happy & Healthy Kids' Top Parent's Wish List

New research from Pampers and NCT has found that what parents want most for their children, is for them to grow up happy and healthy.

The study also revealed that the key elements for making this wish happen, are love, play and sleep, FemaleFirst has said.

The research found that 60% of parents, when seeing their child for the first time, said it was love at first sight. This increased to 80% when parents said they felt a bond with their baby within the first few days following the birth.

Getting their children to sleep through the night is viewed by 35% of parents as a major milestone, and makes them feel a sense of accomplishment as well as making them feel like a good parent.

A fifth of parents surveyed admitted they felt it is impossible to teach a baby to sleep through the night, claiming it is about luck instead, while 65% thought it is possible when following certain techniques given by experts.

Jo Tantum, sleep expert for Pampers Love, Sleep & Play said: "Sleep is an integral part of a baby's development and every baby's sleep pattern will differ from another's. It will take time to get into a routine, but parents will learn what works for their baby in time, and baby will learn techniques to self-settle without distress."

Finally, when it comes to play, 55% of parents believe it is vital in order for their children to grow up healthy and happy.

Despite the rise in digital technology, half of parents still believe that traditional forms of play are better for their offspring such as reading and singing. However, 29% thought new forms of technology can stimulate their children's minds.
