According to UTV, Home Office Immigration Enforcement officers stopped the ceremony shortly before it was due to start.
A 29-year-old woman from Nigeria, Lynda Kemisola Eremion, who was in Northern Ireland on a student visa, was arrested alongside her would be groom, 45-year-old Adeshola Adekunie Bankole who is a British citizen.
They were interviewed by officers and following a search carried out at an address they claimed to be living at in east Belfast, Ms Eremion was charged with attempting to obtain leave to remain in the UK by deception, while Mr Bankole was charged with assisting unlawful immigration.
Last Thursday, Eremion appeared at Belfast magistrates' Court to answer to the charges. She has been remanded in custody to re-appear at a later date.
Another Nigerian woman, 37-year-old Aitua Mercy Tosin, who was acting as a witness to the ceremony was also charged with assisting unlawful immigration.
Both she and Bankole were released after their interview, but are due to appear in court on 25 September to answer to their charges. A third woman, aged 46, and also acting as a witness was released after caution.
Andrea Anderson for Home Office Immigration Enforcement, is quoted as saying: "We are carrying out frequent operations in Northern Ireland to crack down on suspected sham weddings.
"Where we receive information that a wedding may be suspicious we will investigate."
