Brits Choose 'Money Over Love' – Survey

Britons are found to be happiest at the age of 37, new research has claimed.

It is thought by that time, most people are well on their way to achieving a number of their life goals, such as financial security, married with a family and having a successful job.

However, the study, carried out by deodorant brand Sure, revealed that both men and women put money before love when it comes to their goals in life.

Being financially secure was the aim for more than 70% of participants, and this was followed by getting married and having a family, which was important to around half of those who took part in the survey.

Around 2,000 men and women were questioned in order to discover the top 10 life ambitions for both sexes, as well as the ideal age that Brits would like to achieve each life goal.

While both men and women agreed on the importance of money and having children to feeling happy in life, they differed on other aspirations.

For example, marriage came third on the list for women with 48% saying it was an important ambition, but it came in at number five for men, who put a good career and travelling the world before finding love.

Other goals that made it onto the list was living abroad, doing something selfless and learning a foreign language.

Elsewhere, the average woman hoped to get married by the age of 27 and have her first child at 28, while men wanted to achieve the same goals two years later. Women were also found to want to have a successful career, be financially secure and own their own dream home at a younger age than men.

Both sexes were also asked what was key to their happiness, with more than half of women citing being in a stable relationship and spending time with friends and relatives as being important to feeling content. For men, they put financial security and job satisfaction above family life.

Hannah Kehoe, brand manager at Sure, said: "Women today are aspiring to achieve more than ever before, from travelling around the world to having a successful career and owning their dream home.

"Our research reveals that whilst men and women are united on the importance of being financially secure, they have differing opinions on other key life ambitions including marriage and doing something selfless."
