Michael Douglas 'Hopeful' Over Saving Marriage

Michael Douglas has said he is "hopeful" that he can save his marriage to Catherine Zeta Jones.

The 68-year-old actor was speaking about his marriage at the 65th Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday night.

He admitted that the couple are "on a break", but added that the couple hope to resolve their differences.

Speaking to US journalist Billy Bush, Douglas said: "Catherine is great. She is doing wonderful, talked to her today [and] just got a lovely note from her. I'm very hopeful that we're going to work things out.

"As I said we're just taking a break, a couple of issues, sometimes you gotta do that."

The couple started dating in March 1999 and married in 2000. They have two children together, Dylan, 13, and Carys, 10.

The actor also acknowledged his wife as he accepted his Emmy Award for Best Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Movie Award for HBO's 'Behind The Candelabra'.

He said: "I want to thank my wife Catherine for her support, my kids Dylan and Carys, and a shout out for my oldest son Cameron and hoping that they'll allow me to see him soon."

Douglas's son, Cameron, from a previous relationship, is currently in jail for drugs offences.
