The 53-year-old music mogul has been rumoured to be preparing to tie the knot ever since the news broke that he was to become a father.
When asked by Ryan Seacrest on his KIIS-FM radio show on Tuesday about the possibility of a wedding, Cowell revealed: "Let's put it this way, I wouldn't expect her to be a single mother."
The 'X Factor' boss was also asked if he knew the sex of his child, and he replied: "Yes, it's a human. I do (know). Have a guess?"
When the host, Seacreast, asked if it was a boy, Cowell answered: "That would be a good guess I think. It would be a good guess but we'll see."
He added that he is now excited at the thoughts of becoming a dad.
"I am happy at the moment actually. It's kind of an unusual feeling. Overall, everything is fine. But obviously I had a very traumatic time over the summer.
"I genuinely never thought [me being a Dad] was going to happen... Partly because I was scared of who I was going to have kids with...[but] Lauren and I get along really well and once I got used to the idea I thought, 'I think this is going to be very good.'
"Obviously, I would have to make sure the baby has an English accent," he continued. "I said to Lauren, 'What if I just play me on tape while the baby is sleeping so the baby can hear me and have a British accent and his first words will be, 'You're absolutely useless!'"
In July, a US newspaper revealed the millionaire was to become a parent for the first time with American socialite Lauren Silverman. At the time, 36-year-old Ms Silverman was technically still married to her husband – Andrew Silverman – who is also a close friend of Cowell's.
The Silverman's, who have a seven-year-old son together, finalised their divorce in August.
