The announcement renegades on comments he made during a television interview with Arsenio Hall earlier this month when he pledged to stop smoking.
At the time, host Hall told the music mogul: "You have to stop smoking around the kid, man!", to which Cowell turned serious and confessed he would try to kick the habit.
However, speaking to reporters following an episode taping for The X Factor USA last week, he admitted he "lied" and would instead create a space in his home where he could continue to smoke, without harming his child.
He said: "There are a lot of boring things that happen when you have a baby. You have to get rid of sharp edges, cigarettes, alcohol ... then there's the toilet to make safe. But I'll have a smoking room!"
He also revealed he tried switching to electronic cigarettes but claimed they "don't work".
During the summer, it was revealed that Cowell is expecting his first child with US Socialite Lauren Silverman. Their child, believed to be a boy, is due in February.
