Firth and Guiggioli have been married for 16 years and have two children together.
Despite his busy work schedule however, the actor said he always makes time for romance.
In an interview with Hello magazine, the 53-year-old explained: "There's no formula but you need to be attentive to not getting distracted by the routine things of living together and find time for romance."
He added that the secret is to enjoy each other's company without worrying about anything else that might be going on around them.
The actor also discussed the first time he met his film director wife. They pair met while working on television mini-series 'Nostromo' in Colombia, and Firth said he was nervous when he saw her coming towards him.
"I recall standing on the steps of an old church in the town centre when I saw this vision of a woman walking through a crowd in the square," he said.
"I almost became terrified when I saw her approach me, but I knew I had to go towards her and meet her."
Firth and 44-year-old Guiggioli, who married in 1997, have two sons together, 12-year-old Luca, and Matteo, 10.
