The highest rate was found in mothers aged 40 and over, with 42% having a C-section, while among mothers under the age of 20, only 13.6% had their baby delivered via Caesarean section.

Elsewhere, the statistics reveal that more babies are born to women in the most deprived areas, with a birth rate of 37.2 per 1,000 compared with 18.6 per 1,000 in the least deprived areas.

This trend continued for teenage pregnancies, with 31.1 per 1,000 teenage girls in the most deprived areas, with just 3.6 per 1,000 teenage girls in the least deprived.

The lowest rate of teenage births was found in London, with the highest recorded in the North East.
