The study of 1,000 mums and dads, which was carried out by Littlewoods, discovered that mothers spend a dedicated 13 hours and 23 minutes deciding on their partner's Christmas gift, with fathers spending a rather disappointing four hours and 10 minutes in return.
Perhaps, and not overly surprising, this is why 57% of mums admit they are disappointed with the gifts their husband or boyfriend chooses for them. For a further quarter, they have even gone as far as to drop hints so they don't have the same disappointment this year.
For 11% of women, they are left to buy their own Christmas gift because their partner is so unsure of what to purchase, while one in 10 women are expected to wrap all the presents during the festive season – including their own.
Gary Kibble, retail brand director at Littlewoods.com, said: "With all the planning, shopping and preparation, mums spend the majority of their time making sure others have the perfect Christmas day. Now it's their turn to be wowed.
"The excitement of eagerly unwrapping Christmas presents to find the surprises that lie within never goes away, no matter who you are or what your age."
