Names Most Likely To Attract Partners Revealed

New research has revealed the names most likely to attract potential partners when looking for love online.

The study, carried out by Match.com, found that a person's name can have an 8% swing in favourability on dating websites. It added that singletons with the name Jack or Olivia are more likely to attract potential partners.

Of those polled, four in 10 women (41%) said they would consider dating someone called Jack, while six in 10 men (58%) admitted they would visit someone's online dating profile if they were called Olivia.

Other popular names for men included Barry (40%), Riley (38%) and Dan (34%), while popular women's names included Chloe (58%), Emily (57%) and Kate (56%).

Wayne (33%) is the least popular men's name, while Ava (50%) is bottom of the girls' names.

For the study, the singletons were asked to select names they would most – and least – like to go on a date with. Match.com then selected the five top and bottom names and tested them visually by revealing a panel of 11,760 people a different version of the same profile with only the name changed. Participants were asked whether they would or would not consider dating the person they were shown. The results showed an increase in favourability of up to 8% for the most well-liked names when all other profile details were identical.

Commenting on the findings, Kate Taylor, resident relationship expert at Match.com, said: "Everyone's views on names are subjective and influenced by their upbringing, peers and people they knew at school.

"It can be very easy to make a judgement on someone's personality based on their name - but this is a meaningless assumption.

"I'd always encourage online daters to review the full profile before making a snap decision, otherwise you're likely to find yourself missing out on some fantastic dates with lovely people."
