According to the Daily Mail, the 54-year-old X Factor judge and his girlfriend, have agreed to call their unborn child 'Simon'.
The news comes just weeks after an interview with the music mogul in which he joked that 'Simon' was the "perfect name".
However, the MailOnline has now reported that it was not a joke and that the couple - whose child is due next month - have officially decided on the name Simon Cowell Jr.
A source is quoted as saying: "Simon and Lauren have decided that their favourite name for the baby is actually Simon.
"For a while it was between Simon and Eric – Simon's dad's name, but now it looks like Eric will be the middle name."
Another insider said that some of those who attended the couple's baby shower last month brought gifts emblazoned with the initials 'SC' or the name 'Simon', fuelling further speculation as to the baby-to-be's name.
This will be Cowell's first child. His girlfriend, US socialite Lauren Silverman, is already a mother to seven-year-old Adam, from her former marriage to property developer Andrew Silverman.
