The couple, who tied the knot three years ago, have one child together – a son, Luca.
It was revealed over the weekend that the pair's marriage had come to an end, but in a statement, their split was said to be "amicable".
A representative for Duff, 26, told People magazine: "They remain best friends and will continue to be in each other's lives. They are dedicated to loving and parenting their amazing son and ask for privacy at this time."
The actress-turned-singer later took to her Twitter account to say: "Mike and I are sitting here, we are so appreciative for all of your kindness & well wishes. Not an easy day but we're getting thru it together (sic)".
The couple first started dating in 2007. In February 2010, they married in Santa Barbara, California. In March 2012, they welcomed their first child together.
